I’m so excited for this book, thank you for the push towards it Alice, it’s been on my list for a couple of years but I’ve never made space. It’s freezing here in the UK and my usual seasonal overwhelm is in progress so this is exactly what I needed.
I'm in the process of tracking Wintering down (seems strange as we head for 33 degrees C today in a hot and far more humid than usual Canberra) but it sounds perfect!
I'll be looking for this book soon! It sounds like my life over the last 5 years. As a native Calgarian, wintering should be in my blood but it took me 4.5 decades to come to terms with it. Kudos to you for learning to lean into the season.
Most days! Some days, winter is still really hard and I long to be in a different (warmer) place! The book is really good at helping us find the space between.
I just read this in September, and it was extremely comforting as I head into a personal winter of my own 🥰 I’m looking forward to reading the discussion about it and re-reading parts.
I recently read Wintering. Too me it's less about the actual "winter" months and more about, as Emma wrote below, the ebb and flow of life. How we have winter months in our lives where things seem dark and dismal and then eventually the sky becomes "painterly" later in the evening and we start to respond. I definitely will be joining in.
As to life changing books I found a tiny easy read that stayed with me for a LONG time. I just re read it and found it to be so spot on....Life on the Refrigerator Door.
Bernie! This is so lovely of you to say. The link doesn't lead me to a post, but I'm still very grateful you found something in my book. It's always so valuable for me to be reminded that I'm a writer when a reader is so generous. x
I love Wintering and found it profoundly reassuring. A real meditation in words. It’s made me more conscious of my ebb and flow periods and less resistant to the ebb aspect (although still a work in progress).
Yes! I have read both of her books and feel the same way you do about how exquisitely she describes every day life and taps into similar emotions I’ve experienced in the last 10 years. I’m looking forward to hearing what others think and how they relate to the book on all sorts of levels

I hope you enjoy it! For me, the winter it describes isn't as cold as the one we have in Saskatchewan, and for you it will be far colder...

I'll be joining the book club. I'm part way through the book. Thanks Alice.
Wonderful! I hope you're finding it an interesting and illuminating read so far. x

I'll be glad to hear what you think about it. Sending hugs for your personal winter, Ashleigh. I hope everything is okay x
You've recommended it and it sounds of interest to me.
Great. I'm looking forward to this!

This is what I wrote about it here --https://equipoiselife.wordpress.com/2024/12/20/life-by-post-it-notes/-

I read it a few years ago but just gulped it down very quickly. A slow re-read would be very good for me I think.
I often gulp books and find myself struggling to remember the details. I want to linger in the details this time around x

The ebb process is hard to accept, still, for me. I'm so looking forward to re-reading and remembering some of this.

Lovely. I think when I re-read it, I'll notice all sorts of different details this time around.
