I did, I did! And they were lovely. And I drove back along a road with no interruptions. Oh, Justine, I thought about the ending of this for so long!!!
I am so sorry but I was laughing long before you came to the "funny" part as I knew from your starting location exactly where you were going to go! Alas the ferry closes in the fall. Have you ever taken it - it's such a pretty trip. Short but so cool to be on the river but not in November in the snow!
I love how you drew the story out and so glad to see in the comments that you made it on time to read to the kids! Did you come back via 11? Hopefully this was after the first snow storm and before the second! What a great start to winter. Bernie
If we were in AA, I would also be admitting that I was a doubter of Google maps and fell victim to my own "wisdom" just this morning 😅 thankfully my mistake only caused a 2min delay, but I imagine yours might have had more significant consequences? But I really do hope you made it to those kids! Hanging for part 2!!
What a pleasant surprise (and an honour) to see my comments about The Salt Path included here! Thoroughly enjoyed Winn’s story (great book club suggestion, Cate!) and curious about what happened after the final chapter.
Speaking of what happened next, Ali, I assume you eventually arrived safely in Naicam? Wonderful tension building with those details - frayed phone cable, intermittent cell coverage, impending snow storm - creating that looming sense of unease in the background! Winter driving on the prairies can be quite the adventure, even without technology leading us astray. Please take care and be safe!!!
I did get there, did my presentation and then drove all the way back to Saskatoon along a road with no ferry required! And thank you for your comments here and throughout. I’m going to find out what happened next and report back next week! 💕
Oh thank you, dee. And thank you for your email, too. I knew I needed another paragraph which is why I didn't send yesterday, then, with the little boys wild around me, I spent some time early this morning thinking about how to get to the end of a journey that didn't have an end...
Sending you love. Stay safe in the storm later today xoxxoxo
But did you get there to read to the kids? Such anticipation, waiting for the next chapter!!!
I loved your story, intermingled with excerpts from the Salt Path.

I thought I'd replied to this ages ago! I have been knee deep in helping my MIL and then we went to Taylor Swift this weekend which was brilliant!
I got to the kids and came back between snowstorms and travelled a highway without a ferry crossing (maybe the 11???)
Hope you're doing well. I really appreciated your message when I first read it and I'm only sorry my actual reply took so long!

No worries as I rarely ever come on here and now it is making me update my info and I don't even know where said info is!
Also, loved the video ❤️
Thank you! It was early and I really wanted to read with you all and my little boys were playing in the pool of light beside me xoxox

I did! I got there for the session and dealt with the wild snowstorm and listened to The Salt Path for the whole journey. xoxo
Oh yay!! What a relief! And now I'm thinking, having extra driving time meant extra listening time... an unexpected blessing!
Such a good way to look at this!
Your story - a beautiful allegory! So glad (and relieved) that you are finding The Salt Path as compelling as I have.
Thank you for this, Cate 💕 I’m glad you enjoyed it 💕

Ali. Your final paragraph is killer. Thank you.
