So caught up in the concept of objects as a way into story… I love this! I keep scrolling up and down between the picture and your words to fit the meaning to the image. I'm intrigued and filled at the same time. I think I may have to 'create' a little vignette of objects to inspire my current work(s) - if I can find a dedicated space near my desk. Oh, and Happy Birthday! May your year ahead be filled with all good things and loads of creativity x
Happy birthday! I have been going through pictures a lot to try to remember as I write. And then I have two little trinkets on my shelf. One is a plastic 3d printed hour-glass type structure that shows you the volume of half a dome is equal to the volume of a cylinder minus a cone with the same radius and height if you put water in the top. It was made for me by someone at the University of Chile and I just love it so much, because it was made for me. The other thing is a little bit of dark rainbow bismuth, barely bigger than a thimble, that's in a repeating pyramid pattern. We got it at a tiny shop in Newbury, Rhode Island on my birthday and my son asked if we could buy it. I never buy stuff like that because it's "useless," more clutter, but we both loved the colors and the shape and it felt rebellious to buy something, to do something I don't usually do.
I love the sound of this hourglass! What a magical object, full of story (and mystery!) I feel the same about the bismuth! Thank you so much for sharing all this, Laura xoxoxox
Happy Birthday Alice! It comes as no surprise to me that you are a fellow earthy Capricorn (mine is Christmas Eve)
I have a difficult relationship with objects, as being very visual, I attach strong emotions to things. I've had to let go of many objects from my past due to needing to let go of the difficult memories. But I think my woolly hat would be one of my favourite objects, something that speaks of so many happy walks in nature.
I'll be leaving the novelry soon (my subscription expires in February) so I'm glad that I can continue to access your wisdom via your newsletter
Oh, I love how the woolly hat is so full of stories. Thank you for sharing. I'll MISS you at The Novelry and I look forward to supporting your writing and photography here xoxox
HAPPY BIRTHDAY from New Zealand! I hope that it was a great one. It sounds as though it was very creative and seed-sowing day. I hope all the seeds germinate and produce an abundant harvest.
I am also a Capricorn - my birthday is 29 December.
I am at the age where I am trying to get rid of objects but I am not always successful.
I have a couple of mugs I love - one bought at a charity shop in the UK, and another was given to me by my granddaughter.
And there are other special objects that come to mind after reading your post! Thank you.

I'm thinking about all sorts of objects FOR each of my characters next, I think. I'm loving this whole process.
